Bury it with a date
A task with a future date does not sit blinking in Today. It waits in the backlog and moves up on its own on the morning of the chosen day, already without the date: that way it is not promoted again at the next midnight.
The jay buries an acorn and comes back for it. jayio does the same with your day.
At midnight in your timezone the list for the current day empties: what was left half done goes back to the backlog, what you finished goes to the archive, what was marked for tomorrow moves up. No task sits at the top pretending to be urgent since Tuesday.
No card, no “talk to sales”. See the plans.
Field note no. 1 · The method
jayio is not where you keep everything you have to do. It is where what you are going to do today fits. That difference is the whole method, and it has three rules.
The last thing of the working day is not more work: it is looking at the calendar, seeing what tomorrow's commitments ask of you and writing the list. You arrive the next morning knowing what to do, instead of deciding it while your head is still cold.
If it does not fit, it is not an item, it is a project, and a project does not go on today's list, it goes in slices. An item also has to be specific enough to leave no doubt about whether it was done.
Did something useful that was not planned? Write it down and mark it done. The list is there to show the day as it happened, not to protect the plan you drew in the morning.
A vague item is an agreement you can break without noticing.
The first rule is a ritual: close the notebook only after turning the page. That is exactly what jayio does for you, on its own, at your midnight, and it is why there is a status called for tomorrow, and why Today wakes up empty.
Field note no. 2 · Task type and status
Type and status are not two fields, they are two readings of the same drawing. And in the jayio form the icon does not illustrate the control: it is the control. Change the shape and the whole band redraws.
Field note no. 3 · What happens at midnight
Now that the symbol reads, the board explains itself. The four rules below are the ones running on the server, at your local midnight: notice that the shape never changes, only the mark inside. Push the clock.
archives completed and cancelled returns what is left of Today promotes what was “for tomorrow” releases what was scheduled for today Three cards are marked for tomorrow or scheduled. Watch where they go.
A one day list usually holds four to eight items. If your Today does not fit on the screen, the screen is not the problem.
Field note no. 4 · What is not for today
The backlog is where the acorn waits until the day to dig it up.
A task with a future date does not sit blinking in Today. It waits in the backlog and moves up on its own on the morning of the chosen day, already without the date: that way it is not promoted again at the next midnight.
The order is yours and it is manual: drag the item to where it belongs. Moving one card does not reorder the whole list, so a long list stays as fast as a short one, and the position you chose is the one waiting for you next time.
Field note no. 5 · API and MCP
jayio was born talking to agents. The same context the screen uses is exposed as an MCP server and as a REST API, with a personal token and scopes.

For people who use an AI assistant: you ask, it writes it on your list.
For people who code or automate: other systems create and read tasks.
