Field note · Connect AI

Your AI assistant, writing in jayio.

Two acronyms show up on the pro plan: MCP and API. Neither needs any coding to understand. Here is what each one does, with examples, and how to connect yours.

Your AI assistant

MCP · Model Context Protocol

MCP is the standard way for an AI assistant to use other apps on your behalf. Connected to jayio, it reads and writes your list just as you would on the screen.

Who it is for
Anyone who already talks to an AI assistant day to day.
Example
“Note: call the dentist tomorrow morning.”
The task goes into your Backlog list, set for tomorrow morning, and moves up to your Today list by itself on the day.
What it can do
Create, list, read, update, move and complete tasks, and look up your labels.

Other systems

REST API

The API is the entrance for programs. Instead of a person clicking, it is a system creating and reading tasks in jayio.

Who it is for
People who code, or who use an automation tool that makes API calls, such as n8n or Make.
Example
Every form filled in on your website becomes a task in your Backlog list, with no one copying and pasting.
What it can do
The same as the assistant, through direct calls: create, list, move and complete tasks.

Step by step · About five minutes

How to connect your assistant

  1. Subscribe to the pro plan. Connecting assistants and systems is part of it. See the plans.
  2. Generate a token. In jayio, open Settings → Connect AI and click “Generate token”. The token works like a password just for this connection and is shown once, so copy it right away. Tick “Allow writing” if you want the assistant to create and complete tasks; without it, it only reads.
  3. Add jayio to your assistant. It asks for two things: the address https://app.jayio.app/mcp and the token. In Claude Code, for instance, it is a single command:
claude mcp add --transport http jayio https://app.jayio.app/mcp \
      --header "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_TOKEN"
  4. Test it. Ask “list my tasks for today”. If they show up, you are connected.

Questions · The ones that always come up

Before you connect

Do I need to know how to code?

For the AI assistant, no: you generate a token and paste two things into the assistant. For the API, yes, or an automation tool that makes the calls for you.

Which assistants work?

The ones that let you add a remote MCP server with an address and a token, such as Claude Code and Cursor. The Claude.ai and ChatGPT connectors ask for their own kind of sign-in (OAuth), which jayio does not offer yet.

Does the assistant see my whole account?

It sees your tasks and labels. Password, email and payment stay out of reach. A token without “Allow writing” can only read.

How do I turn it off?

In Settings → Connect AI, click “Revoke” next to the token. The assistant loses access right away.

What if I leave the pro plan?

When the change takes effect, the assistant and other systems lose access. Your tasks all stay where they are.

You say it, it writes it down.

The list is still yours.
